Client FAQ

Below are a few questions some of our clients have asked.  We'd be thrilled to hear from you with any of yours.

Why the cuttlefish?

Our inspiration comes from the cuttlefish and its fine-tuned, sophisticated responses to the environment, ability to stay ahead of its competition through keen eyesight - even in the dark - and of course, for its ability to strategically "squirt ink."

Whether the cuttleifsh is raising its arms to express prowess among minor competitors or camouflaging into its surrounding to ward off larger threats, the most strategic communicators of the sea tailor their conversations in ways most likely to resonate with intended audiences.  Our approach to differentiating our clients from comparable competitors and capitalizing on large trends to earn strategic media coverage in big picture stories is very similar.  You can learn more about cuttlefish here and here or watch videos of our favorite species – the flamboyant kind - here.

What kinds of results can I expect?

Cuttlefish Ink was founded on a passion for creating opportunities for our clients to appear in strategic media outlets, including on national magazine covers and TV shows, so they can engage in conversations with key influencers.  We have plenty of results we can talk to you about that brought us to where we are.  While we can’t guarantee placements (we’re not buying advertising after all), we can help identify the most likely angles for you to be successful then follow up persistently and effectively to ensure you are considered.  In fact as part of our assessment, we’ll ask you for your top media priorities and work to meet objectives we agree on together.  At Cuttlefish Ink, we have a unique-to-the-industry model: If we don't deliver on those objectives, we won't charge you a nickle.  Throughout our relationship, our goal is to make our clients happy with the results as well as the process.

What criteria do you use in selecting clients?

We only represent clients for whom we feel we can successfully land publicity. If we partner with you, it's because we truly believe you have a marketable book, idea or business-- and that we can effectively help you achieve your goals. We also look for clients in unique niches that compliment our existing work rather than compete with it so that ultimately we can exceed the goals we set out to achieve.

What is strategic communications?

Technically, strategic communications is the correspondence of concepts that satisfy the long-term goals of an organization.  But at Cuttlefish Ink, we define the process as the telling of good stories that lead to interesting conversations and engage people.  Our passion is for propelling key spokespeople into dialog with various opinion shapers, armed with interesting things to say, to ultimately generate excitement and change perceptions.
