Shira Derasmo has a 20-year track record developing compelling narratives and strategies that resonate with consumers, business audiences, and members of the media. Serving in senior leadership roles inside the world’s leading PR agencies as well as at large and small healthcare and technology organizations, she combines industry best practice know-how with boots-on-the ground tactical competence. 

As a senior vice president at BCW Global, where she continues to serve in a freelance capacity, her work has encompassed executive and organizational visibility work for innovative health systems and players including Premier, one of the world’s leading global healthcare supply chain organizations, and NorthShore University HealthSystem. At Waggener Edstrom (now WE Communications) and Chandler Chicco Companies (now Syneos), she ran media and communications efforts for large organizations including Microsoft, Coca Cola, Novo Nordisk, Merck, Novartis, and Johnson & Johnson.

Her in-house leadership roles include heading communications for Humana divisions - Humana At Home, Humana Pharmacy, and others - for nearly ten years, as well as leading public relations for privately-held B2B and consumer organizations including AppStream (now Symantec) and SeniorBridge (now Humana).  

Shira’s work to positively elevate organizations, products and brands spans healthcare categories including Alzheimer’s, diabetes, arthritis, oncology, multiple sclerosis, hepatitis, herpes, hyperlipidemia, stroke, hemophilia, chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD), RSV, and congestive heart failure.

Her expertise is in developing and executing targeted, national and international campaigns and crisis communications strategies that create strategic and sustainable brand value.  Shira’s strong relationships with journalists and understanding of the media landscape have helped her to land cover stories in outlets including USA Today and The Wall Street Journal as well as prominent placements in outlets including Newsweek and Time and trade and broadcast media.
